PRESIDENT’S WELCOME

Hello everyone, and welcome!

On behalf of Nexecon Consulting Group, thank you for taking the time to learn more about our organization and community at the University of Michigan. Nexecon is an undergraduate consulting club with professional opportunities for student members to work with actual companies. Beyond that, we are a passionate community of student leaders committed to our organization, our work, and our collective growth. Most of all, we are a tight-knit group of nearly 60 members who have collectively found our Michigan family in each other.

Looking back almost three years ago, as a freshman, I remember attending information sessions and Festifall tables for over a dozen consulting clubs, finance organizations, and anything else I could find, and at some point, they all started to blend together. But within that hectic experience coming onto campus for the very first time, I remember my conversations with Nexecon members and absolutely loving what I heard from them. From talking to younger members all the way up to upperclassmen, everyone shared their unique stories of what made Nexecon so special to them and how it continued to shape their Michigan experience. Now that I have lived through many of those same experiences, I can confidently say to you that Nexecon has given me many of my closest friends and favorite memories that I will cherish forever.

I would also like to highlight Nexecon’s history, which you can be a part of. Nexecon was founded in 2008, and since then, the club has grown into the premier consulting organization on campus. We now service clients of every size, industry, and sector, and for the last 16 years, we have worked with local non-profits, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and small businesses from all across the globe. We seek to offer a broad range of experiences to every member. Our mission as an organization remains as clear as ever: to equip every one of our members with the skills and instruction they need to achieve their career goals, while cultivating a supportive and inclusive community.

THE NCG ADVANTAGE

BREADTH OF PROJECTS

From start-ups to non-profits to Fortune 500 companies, Nexecon exposes you to a great variety of work in a multitude of sectors. Analysts have significant autonomy in their work, leading to teams that are interested and committed to their projects. As an analyst, you will have the opportunity to develop skills related to market entry, branding, modeling, optimization, customer acquisition, and so many more soft and technical skills, while seeing your work have a tangible impact on a client.

TIGHT-KNIT COMMUNITY

Working on a Nexecon project team is unlike any other undergraduate teamwork experience. Our members understand that a positive, collaborative working environment requires each member to challenge and encourage each other. Outside of project work, our monthly community gatherings, frequent social events, and close friendships among members offer endless opportunities to find your best friends and a supportive group of people who will stick with you far beyond graduation.

Professional Support

Our members are prepared to reach their career goals through informal guidance by Senior Project Advisors, E-Board, and our Upperclassmen, in addition to regular resume reviews and recruiting workshops. Our vast alumni network offers a valuable opportunity for members to connect with professionals in desired industries and at their dream firms. Also, our annual Chicago Trek and Michigan Undergraduate Consulting Conference offer unparalleled professional opportunities.

A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF A NEW ANALYST

  • Sunday

Attend new analyst training (NAT) with our executive board to boost your skills in a variety of areas such as strategic frameworks, data visualization, or excel! Following training, join a Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) meeting with other Nexecon members. SPUs are internal projects that range from creating a past-project database to managing our Instagram to planning a Nexecon social.

  • Tuesday

Participate in a weekly project team meeting with your team consisting of a project manager, 3-5 analysts, and a senior project advisor. During the project meeting, you will present your workstream and help determine what areas to focus on next week. After the meeting, grab dinner, go axe throwing, or do an escape room with your team as one of your team bonding activities

  • Thursday

Dive into your individual workstream, which may consist of conducting market research, brainstorming strategic initiatives, mocking up a website, creating a financial model, or producing slides. Throughout the week, spend time collaborating with fellow analysts, chatting with Nexecon upperclassmen on campus, attending networking sessions and recruiting workshops, and more.

  • Saturday

Have fun at a Nexecon community gathering (CG)! Every two weeks, we host a CG, with food catered from local Ann Arbor favorites, for members to come together and touch base on all things Nexecon. Beyond the CG, hang out with your analyst class and other Nexecon members at bonding events such as ice skating days at Yost, local orchard trips, game day tailgates, or bonfires.
